Body Piercings

Body piercing has taken quite a turn towards the bizarre in recent years. I remember when visiting Kenya in the early 80's I saw Masai men and women with all kinds of body jewellery piercing their skin. The women had thick bands of colourful beads stretching their necks, with heavy ear decorations stretching their ear lobes to a point of mutilation. These wmoen were very pretty, but the beads stretching their necks and with these huge extented ear lobes, they looked simply bizarre. The men too had these heavy wooden sticks through their ears and some had huge looped holes where they had been removed and left the skin hanging torn and ragged. Strangely, in recent years, I see these same stretched and mutilation lobes on the heads of Welsh boys as I saunter around Cardiff. The Masai wore this heavy jewellery as some sort of trbal statement of status, whilst these Welsh boys and girls do it because they think it looks cool... Whatever, but do remember these guys are going to grow up and decide they would like their ear lobes back in one piece and that is going to require surgery. Then we have these facial and body piercings that are going to leave permanent scars. I often meet girls and boys nowadays with holes in their eyebrows from eyebrow piercings, or holes around their lips from lip piercings. Once removed this body jewellery leave ugly holes and scars. It is, quite simply, bizarre...
